Hi. Woe is me. I am suffering the bane of all Chambers lovers. I found another stove. I am currently cleaning up an A model which is cosmeticly perfect, but have been concerned about its lack of available parts and difficulty with propane conversion. I found a B in good working condition but not cosmeticly as nice. The service well door and oven door have some dings. The front is good but one of the sides is damaged. Will my A doors fit the B?
How about the side panels and thermowell lid? Does a B conversion to propane take new burners? Thanks for any info...Dan

Dan, there's not great news on that front. I was in your same dilemma a couple of months ago. If you search this site with something like "propane conversion" you'll see that we're not alone. Also, the B/BZ manuals that Sam and Todd offer cover all that.

Bottom line, the parts for converting the B to propane were made back in the day but are difficult to come by.

You'll at least need new burners (the ones w/o the peaks - and the ones from the C's won't work). And you'll need shallower drip pans, and some other stuff, like new orifices, maybe.

As you've probably seen, the best route is to watch for a B that was set up for propane or a BZ or a C either of which is much easier to convert and if neccessary to find parts for.

We opted for the latter and found a fairly nice looking C on eBay for a couple hundred dollars, a month ago.

And if you've been watching eBay for the last few weeks, you've noticed some nice looking stoves going un-bought, so it might be a buyer's market, right now. You might even try contacting some of those sellers who didn't sell through eBay's completed auctions search tab.

    Good luck,

    Jack
